Cases of the B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant inside Michigan’s prison system have more than tripled since an outbreak at a prison facility in Ionia last week. Michigan ranks second nationally for the highest number of B.1.1.7 variant cases, behind Florida, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This variant is considered more contagious than the original coronovirus.
